We had our first appt with the midwives yesterday. It was wonderful to see them, especially since our doula from Sebastian’s birth, Betsy, is now Beah’s apprentice. We are so lucky to be able to share the whole pregnancy with them this time.

Beah found the heartbeat of the two inch creature inside of me. It was exciting to hear, and of course a relief to know that the risk of miscarriage has gone way down. It is hard to believe that something so tiny could be so well formed and actually have a beating heart.

Sebastian was at the appt and did a great job of being interested, cooperative, and very flirty with Betsy.

It feels like like the pregnancy is finally starting for real!

Yesterday we spent the day with grandma and grandpa on the farm. Sebastian had a fantastic time. He got to see the goats, wild turkeys and the cats in the house. He also got to pick and shuck corn and pick some greens, both of which we used for dinner. But the hands down highlight of the day was driving in the tractor on grandpa’s lap. Steve even took his hands off the steering wheel and let Sebastian veer around the field on his own. It was pure joy for him. Later grandpa gave him a lesson on how wood-burning stoves work, and how theirs heats their water as well. He actually sat still for at least 5 minutes as he waited for the fans on top of the stove to start turning.
